When it comes to rebuilding, Daniel Coloprisco has first-hand experience. The New Jersey-based keyboardist and songwriter spent most of his career as in the Information Technology field, with aspirations of eventually turning music into a full-time gig. Splitting time between his professional career and playing in rock bands, everything seemed to be on track. “Then life happened,” he explained. “Marriage, divorce, remarriage, social and family obligations, then another divorce followed by debilitating anxiety. Collectively, all of these obstacles became insurmountable.”
But for the alternative/pop musician, recoiling was never an option. Instead, Coloprisco did the opposite, and turned his negative emotions into a positive force with his new multi-genre EP. A collection of tracks that blends solo piano with alternative, hip hop and pop, the EP is a creative work that has enabled him to reconnect with his core — and also connect with an audience. His latest single, “Winter’s Song,” features vocalist Jes Hudak, a runner-up in Bravo TV’s reality competition series Platinum Hit. The song was deemed promising by TuneCore’s SoundOut service, scoring an 80% out of a possible 85%, indicating high potential for commercial success. The track also ranked in TuneCore’s top 15% of 100,000 all-time songs of its genre.
Inspired by Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor and Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz, Coloprisco has come a long way since his early days growing up in Queens, New York. Buying his first synthesizer as a boy with money saved from his paper route, music was innate for him, though a career in the industry was frowned upon at the time. He says Reznor and Albarn taught him how to park his ego, and to focus on writing and producing the finest music he could.
“With this EP, I rediscovered the abilities that I had and what I enjoyed doing. I vowed to professionally record my best songs. As soon as I began to do so, a creativity wave came over me and I wound up with five new songs and counting. If someone is touched or it has personal meaning for an individual, that would be magnificent.”
Coloprisco’s forthcoming EP is due out in Spring 2019, with a full-length album expected to follow in 2020.
